The Roman Empire and Roman Emperors
The panel provides information on the Roman Empire and the Roman Emperors. During the reign of Emperor Augustus the Noric Kingdom became a Roman protectorate and Pannonia became a province. The Amber Excursion dates back to the reign of Emperor Nero: Around the year 50 A.D. a Roman legionary, who had to acquire amber for Nero’s circus games, set out from Carnuntum to the Baltic Sea. Emperor Traian travelled around in Pannonia in the year 98 A.D., and in 124 A.D. Emperor Hadrian visited the Danube provinces. Both Emperors used the Roman Amber Road for their journeys. From 172 A.D. to 180 A.D. Emperor Marc Aurel led two military campaigns against the Marcomanni and Quadi in the Noric-Pannonian region. On 17th March 180 A.D. he died near Vindobona (Vienna).
The information board also shows the development of the Roman Empire and of present-day Austria at Roman times.
