Camp Village (Vicus) and Watchtower
South of the military camps at Strebersdorf a vicus, a camp village with strip parcelling, lines the Amber Road. An information board which was set up in 2024 provides an overview of the particular features of this camp village and the watchtower. A dense building development can be seen over a length of about 400 metres. The Stoob River separates the vicus into a northern half (Strebersdorf) and a southern half (Frankenau) with a length of about 150 to 190 metres. At the bridgehead on both sides of the river we can see the most massive building development. Over the years, however, large areas were swept away by floods. The house plans, which can be detected, follow those of corridor and strip houses, as known from the civil and military architecture at Carnuntum as well as from the pannonian vici and villas.
